ABOUT ABOUT

As part of the Planning Beyond Paper initiative, Delaware County Planning Department is hosting a three-part series on Placemaking: the act of creating vibrant spaces for communities. Successful Placemaking initiatives have produced community parks, long-lasting traditions, and vibrant spaces in which communities gather and delight.

To lead off the series, Placemaking Part One: Identifying Your Community's Strengths will bring together local experts to provide an introduction to the concepts of placemaking. Michael Cheney, of Groundswell Design Group, and Jeffrey Barg, of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, will share their experiences in creating placemaking projects from the ground up and express the impact such projects have made on local communities. Following the brief presentation, Katrina Johnston-Zimmerman, of The Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation, and Andrew Zitcer, of Drexel University, will lead a workshop that will help communities identify their strengths to help build their brand. Following the workshop, a light networking lunch* will be provided to allow community leaders to further collaborate and ask more questions about placemaking. Community leaders participating in this event will come away with a clear comprehension of placemaking, a better understanding of their communities' strengths, and ideas on how to utilize their strengths to implement successful placemaking projects that are unique to their town. This event is geared toward elected officials, municipal staff, professional planners and economic development officials, and non-profit leaders looking to make a lasting impact on their community.

*Please note that the cost of this event is $11.50 (service fee included), to cover the cost of your lunch and refreshments.
